WELCOME TO PETWORTH PARK

When we moved to West Sussex back in 2018, one of the first places we took the kids for a family walk was Petworth Park, in Petworth. The town was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Peteorde, with a population of 44 households. The park itself is one of the most famous public parks in England, known for its herd of fallow deer, groves of ancient trees, and distinctive landscaping. (During the mid to late 1700s, landscape architect, Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, went to work here, and it remains as one of the best surviving examples of his work.) The kids have loved our visits to Petworth because there’s lots of open space to run around and play, and of course, lots of trees to climb! This 700 acre deer park is adjacent to Petworth House, a magnificent 17th-century manor displaying one of the finest art collections in the care of the National Trust. We’ve enjoyed walking along the trails, along the ponds, and through the stands of trees in all seasons, and even in winter, it’s a lovely spot for a stroll. Enjoy this little peek!
