The death of a Kerala student in Goa, on May 12, has brought the attention to cruel conversion therapies that are inflicted on LGBTQIA+ people. The student was allegedly put into de-addiction centres after she came out to her family as bi-sexual. On her return from the de-addiction centre, she had left for Goa, where she is believed to have killed herself. We reached out to Vyjayanti Vasanta Mogli, a transgender woman, who shared with us that she had been forced to go to a psychiatric home, where she was heavily medicated, made to do hard physical labour and surrounded by high walls and dogs who were trained to growl and attack if anyone moved too fast.
