A song for my daughter Kailani, whose name is inspired by a life-changing trip to the Hawaiian Islands of Maui and Oahu in June 2012 for a concert benefiting a young boy named Trek Atlas Ingram and his family (oursonnylifedotcom) who have since been travelling the world and who encourage us all to "embrace life". My wife Liz and I decided to name our first child--a little girl--Kailani, which means "sea and sky" in native Hawaiian tongue. For years, Liz and I have treasured our precious moments alone, gazing at the boundless night sky or over tranquil bodies of water, be it the ocean, rivers, or lakes, so the name has particularly special meaning to us. And we felt a connection with the family, as we had recently experienced our own difficulties with pregnancy. It's as if the winds of fate were blowing us to this wonderful experience, this celebration of life, as the Aloha spirit and the event itself gave us a new perspective on life and love. The video footage (I've been going GoPro cazy lately haven't I?) was taken on one of our first family boating days - we bought a $450 motorboat (um yeah, same as the cost of the GoPro!) and have been taking advantage of it every chance we get. Traditions need to start somewhere, and since we're days away from any ocean, and many summer days around here in Indiana don't offer much of a breeze for sailing, this motorboat has become our ticket to watersport for now. Daydreams of sailing the Caribbean with little Kailani are common, however, and growing more frequent... Enjoy!
