Massive protests have erupted across Greenland and Denmark after former US President Donald Trump reiterated his controversial stance on taking control of Greenland, citing American national security concerns. Despite freezing temperatures of around 1 degree Celsius, thousands of Greenlanders marched through snow-covered streets chanting slogans like “Greenland is not for sale” and “We will fight, we will not surrender.” Demonstrators carried national flags and placards as they marched from Nuuk city center toward the US diplomatic office. According to police and organizers, nearly one-fourth of Nuuk’s population participated in the rally—an unprecedented turnout for a city with fewer than 20,000 residents. Similar protests were held in other Greenlandic towns, Copenhagen, and several Danish cities. European NATO countries including France, Germany, Sweden, and Norway have announced troop deployments in Greenland as part of Danish-led defense exercises.
