Woodward, Oklahoma — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released dash camera footage showing an August shoot-out between a trooper and pursuit suspect that left the trooper injured. On August 26, 2018, OHP Trooper Austin Ellis attempted to pull over a driver without a seat-belt. The driver initially failed to stop and Ellis pursued the driver until he stopped in the parking lot of a nearby Days Inn hotel. While parked in the motel parking lot, Ellis orders the driver out of the vehicle. The driver does not comply and eventually brandishes a firearm and shoots at Ellis. The two exchange gunshots, with Ellis being shot in his chest, before the suspect flees the scene.Ellis pursues the driver as he flees to a property in Woodward and runs on foot. After a manhunt, authorities took Arturo DeJesus Ramirez Jr. was taken into custody. Ellis was struck in his vest by the gunfire, which led to a fractured rib and damaged artery. The suspect was struck in the hand. Both were transported to the hospital. The suspect is facing several charges including shooting with intent to kill.
