EvoDental Clinicians explain the differences between each implant option, including how every patient receives bespoke treatment plans based of their needs. For more details, visit: www.evodental.com 00:00 - All on 4 dental implants vs All on 6 dental implants "There's no sort of better than, it's more what's appropriate for each individual. So for some people who have worn dentures for a very long time, have not had teeth for a very very long time, providing them with 4 implants with fixed teeth that they can eat with, they can sort of get their life back in some way in some circumstances, then 4 is more than sufficient. But for others who are maybe younger patients who have very strong bites for example, they would really benefit from having the support of two extra implants at the back of the jaw." 00:42 - Benefits of all on 6 dental implants, all on 6 dental implants "6 is fantastic and if you can get 6 in the mouth then perfect, because if one fails, you've got 5 more then to use. In some situations 4 is ideal for that patient because they may not need more than 4, but where possible I always say to patients more is better than less. 01:02 - What are Pterygoid implants? Pterygoid implants "Pterygoids have actually been around for quite some time, but there has definitely been a lot of scaremongering around pterygoid implants, that you're going to hit some very important structures, that things can go wrong. It is quite a specialist procedure in that it's something that takes time to master, but once you have, it then means that you have some really solid pieces of bone to be able to place implants in to at the back of the jaw. 01:30 - Bone grafting for dental implants "They are generally very stable and it allows you to avoid big procedures such as sinus grafting which can come with it's own complications. So where possible we would rather use somebody's own bone rather than doing a big complicated procedure to add artificial bone to that patient. So it means in most cases you can avoid sinus grafting all together." 03:06 - Why dental implant materials matter? What are the 3 types of dental implants? "You can't just have one material. One of the key things for us is materials and understanding forces. A patient who is big and strong and has strong "face" muscles, they are really going to grind through whatever prosthetic they have in their mouth. Sometimes it is actually good to have a bit of a fuse within the prosthetic. ... Say a patient is a really heavy grinder and they have a really brittle material in their mouth, something has to give, and it is usually the material. So we want to give them something that is maybe a little bit softer so they can grind and maybe wear the material in. In those sort of situations you may want to for more something like a PMMA or an acrylic/composite type material. Whereas in patients who don't really grind to that extent or have maybe suffered from things like gum disease in the past and don't have strong forces - they're the type of patients who we would be more inclined to offer zirconia because it is a much stronger material and it's not as forgiving as something like PMMA. 04:44 - Can I get zirconia dental implants if I grind my teeth. Zirconia dental implants "Another question people ask is; well I grind my teeth, I want to benefit from zirconia as well. There's nothing wrong with you having it, but your bite occlusion needs to be dialled in, there's no room for error. The benefit of us here at Evo is, we all train to a high standard and we've got experts as part of the team as well who are all just as pedantic when it comes to checking bites. 05:08 - Bespoke treatment plans, are all dental implants the same? "If you try and blanket prescribe one material for every single person, or one drug to fix every disease - it's never going to work. You have to make sure you are doing a very bespoke treatment plan for each person, and that involves the number of implants, the way we set up and design their teeth, and the materials they're made from. 06:08 - Different types of dental implants. What are the 3 types of dental implants? "We can offer all the different levels of complexities from offering pterygoid implants... to other types of implants you may have heard like trans-nasal implants, zygomatic implants and even something called subperiosteal implants." 06:19 - Been told I can’t get dental implants, guaranteed dental implant treatment. Can I get dental implants with gum disease? Smile in a day. "We've placed all of these throughout the years at EvoDental so it means that every patient who comes to us we can say you will leave with fixed teeth on the day." 07:25 - What are subperiosteal implants? Subperiosteal dental implants. "These are highly complex, highly specialised types of implants. They are a little bit different to the traditional ones that we place." #evodental #dentalimplant #implantdentistry #allon4 #allon6 #zirconia #pmma #porcelain
