In 1905, The Dam Family was quite the popular fad. There were postcards, tobacco tins, clay pipes, two silent movie shorts - including one by The Edison Co! There were also several Dam Family songs, including this one, 'The Whole Dam Family' by George Totten-Smith and Albert von Tilzer, who also wrote 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame'. As you listen to this song, think about the people of the time gathered around their hand-cranked Victrola blushing or laughing, or both, as the word ‘Dam’ was sung over and over again! WARNING: Sometimes I like to add my own verses to these old songs and 'The Whole Dam Family' was begging for a final verse to wrap up the story, so, I wrote one. So if you are a Tin Pan Alley purists who might be offended by this, I have one thing to say: 'Frankly my dear, I don’t give a Dam!
