A WSWNE ZOOM conversation with Welsh architect, Jonathan Adams, author of the book, "Frank Lloyd Wright, the Architecture of Defiance", that explores the influence of Wright's Welsh roots and his architecture (University of Wales Press, 2022). The ZOOM conversation was moderated by WSWNE President Susan Davies Sit on October 26, 2025. Adams discusses how Frank Lloyd Wright’s unbreakable self-belief and startling creative defiance originated in the liberal religion and ideology of his Welsh family. He explains how their attitudes and philosophy were woven into Wright's personality during his childhood, and how they drove him to become the greatest architect of modern times. Jonathan Adams graduated from the Welsh School of Architecture in 1982 and completed his training at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. He has been a chartered architect for 35 years. Returning to Wales in 1998, he designed the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, one of the few contemporary buildings in the UK to become an international icon.
