Why beat 36 levels when you can go faster by beating... 37 !? Play this game here: http://hoshisaga.jp/hoshi9/index.html This is a speedrun of the ninth Hoshi Saga game by Yoshio Ishii/Nekogames. There was a lot of re-routing all the way up to the end, but this gradual improvement has made 8 minutes a reality. Notes: In this game, completing a stage will award the player a coin. The player may then pay 5 coins to auto-complete a level (except for the last), and this will still award its own coin when beating it this way. I will pay for the 7 longest levels, which are #11, #29, #14, #18, #26, #32, and #33. You can't pay for all of these with only 35 stages... more on this later. When I get to choose, I lead with #27. My policy is to only reveal up to 4 starfish, and if I can't be certain where the star is, I guess. This brings this level to about 15 seconds or less - being certain takes far longer usually. I complete the second row next so I can attempt #12 (shooter) earlier. #26 and #28 hurt if they are failed, so I do them next. A trick with #26 is that if you lose the correct angel, guess the one that moves around the most. Fourth row is necessary so I can get a quick DigDug. The goal is to have this done within 20 seconds, which is fairly difficult with the chest spawns. I abuse Retry to get chests much closer to the surface. Fifth column is the final priority so that #35 can be cleared in one try. Got unlucky with #25 not recognizing the star, and #34 was not good. How do I get enough coins for the last two main stages? Fortunately, the Stock and Reprimand stages also award coins! Stage #41 is rather quick with a good alignment (about 13 seconds), which is worth replacing one of the stages that takes about 22-24 seconds. This replaces #26, my run-killer. What a wild ride. I knew that the coin feature was going to allow me to skip the slowest levels, but I was not expecting to save time by adding in a level that is not required! This was very frustrating to play at times, as #1 must always be played first, and it takes so much time to clear rows 2 and 4 in order to attempt the harder locked levels. I was able to stream a bit of this on Twitch for the first time, which was also pretty enjoyable! There I had mused that an eight-fifteen was reasonable, but not a sub-8. Well, I was wrong :) [SPRT time is 8m 00s. Time starts at 3.800 and ends at 8:03.800, at 30 fps.]
