This is a video and telling the removal of the center console in a 2017 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS 550. The goal of removing the center console partway is to gain access to a black wire with a blue stripe coming from the cigarette lighter power port. There are two ports on this console, one being by the front cupholders and below the air conditioning controls and one in the rear for the passengers in the second row.. the power wire will be the same color back there on the connector for the rear one. The black wire with blue stripe has been sort of a common potential for switch power under the hood at certain devices and modules and inside the cabin like this video under the center console and in kick panels usually in the front of the front seat areas . Switch power that works off of your normal procedure of turning the car on and off will give you lots of flexibility and any additions you add to your vehicle such as accent lighting or radar systems . For this specific wire again, black wire with blue stripe under the front of the center console should only be utilized with one or more relays that will isolate any aftermarket installs that need in my opinion anything more than one amp current draw I would isolate with the relay as to not pull any of additional amperage through the cigarette lighter power source. Mercedes-Benz vehicles are very touchy and sensitive to disruption and their CAN data bus system, which means if you end up drawing too much amperage off of a powerline that’s supposed to provide X amount of power to a module in your car and all of a sudden the module sees a drop in power they could throw fault codes and even shut down that module to protect itself. Best practices use a source for switch power that would be the least intrusive on your car system and wiring and always always isolate any added devices or components or projects that require power in order to protect not only yourself but the car as well.
