RSN Sampler Class 2020 2021 Exhibition

In September 2020, we launched the Online RSN ‘Sampler Series’ with Tutor Kelley Aldridge, ‘Practise, Perfect, Play’, a series of regular online classes over 12 months. We welcomed students from all over the world, some getting up very early in the morning, some stitching late at night, but all with the same common goal, to stitch their very own personal sampler. The most basic and traditional form of learning embroidery is the sampler. Historically, young girls were taught various stitches which were then practiced diligently until perfected. Design was less important at this stage than technique, and the most popular presentation format was either in bands (rows) or blocks (a grid). Meet some of the students who followed our ‘Sampler Series’ with Kelley, as they talk about their love of learning new stitches and being able to explore and incorporate people and places that are special to them into their very own sampler.
