What started out as a classic 'house-wide' style screenlink, evolved into something significantly more complex, large-scale, and stylistically different from anything I've built before! The main inspiration for this video was the classic 2012 video - "An Epic Domestic Contraption" by Armtek: ►    • Armtek - Rube Goldberg - An Epic Domestic ...   In the video, Armtek takes you on an adventure through his house, interacting with objects and room environments as the machine progresses. I wanted to capture a similar vibe; build a machine going throughout my house, using as many objects in the environment as I can, and have as much fun building and playing around with these objects as possible. While my mentality did eventually shift towards making at least a few complex 'tabletop' tricks per section, this mindset of 'do the most fun thing possible' helped tremendously to come up with some of the more notable moments and stylistically contrasting tricks I've ever made; from mesmerizing water features, to spinning and flopping fish, to using a literal couch as a machine object - I was down for anything I thought COULD be possible to make. Once I began, I devised a floor plan that would loop back onto itself, since I knew I wanted the machine to start and end in the Kitchen. At this time, I still didn't even know what the 'goal' of the machine would be; I was back and forth between the machine making poptarts and pancakes for a LONG time. The room layout I came up with is almost exactly what it ended up being in the video! Here's some more information on what the 7 sections are, and some DATA: 0:00 Kitchen Classic 'house-wide' style machine built in two parts. Machine increases in the number of 'spectacle' tricks as the machine progresses. ∘ 5th section completed, 15 Tricks, 67 Fails (19 + 48), 31 Themed Objects 1:33 Bedroom A playful machine with a heavy emphasis on nostalgic objects - filled with toys & games from my childhood :) ∘ 2nd section completed, 15 Tricks, 42 Fails, 22 Themed Objects 3:20 Bathroom Chaos was the ultimate goal here. Two machines with a mission to wreak havoc in the bathroom. ∘ 3rd section completed, 12 Tricks, 155 Fails (24 + 131), 20 Themed Objects ∘ K'nex spider design from:    • K’nex spider robot 2   5:22 Living Room Stylistically reflective of a project like Pool Party Machine; two machines that showcase a diverse array of snappy, intricate mechanisms and big, fun objects. ∘ 6th section completed, 13 Tricks, 36 Fails (12 + 24), 23 Themed Objects 7:14 Laundry Room A laundry-themed machine and a workshop one-ball-path, sharing a common theme of controlled chaos. This machine contains some of the most wild and ambitious tricks in the video, but everything is still stable and non-destructive. ∘ 4th section completed, 10 Tricks, 106 Fails (78 +28), 14 Themed Objects 8:36 Office The final gauntlet. The last machines I made for the video; 'office' and 'hobbies' themed machines fusing together all of the different styles of tricks I had learned up to this point. ∘ 7th section completed, 11 Tricks, 633 Fails (455 + 178), 25 Themed Objects ∘ K'nex legs design from:    • Knex humanoid walking mechanism   10:39 Outdoors A large-scale machine with an emphasis on understandable, 'back-to-basics' type tricks. Takes heavy inspiration from Creezy's "Swish Machine", but with a slower pacing fine-tuned to capture the peaceful surroundings. ∘ 1st section completed, 10 Tricks, 82 Fails (40 lower level + 42 upper level), 22 Themed Objects ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Want me to plan/build a chain reaction project for you/your company?
