Join Gregory Peterson ‘73CC, ‘85LAW and learn how to build an art collection, how to learn about new artworks, track them down and claim them as your own, and how to interface with galleries, art dealers, advisers and artists. Gregory Peterson is a collector of note and former trustee of the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. His collection of Contemporary Realist art has been exhibited at the New York Academy of Art, and includes several works now in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other U.S. museums. He will share his adventures from over 30 years as a collector and give advice on the challenges of art collecting: How to find a work with personal meaning to you? Is it best to purchase a painting at auction, at a gallery, art fair or on the internet? And when is it best to commission a work directly from the artist? How has COVID-19 affected collecting? Gregory’s talk will demystify these conundrums—and prove that it isn’t necessary to pay millions to build a priceless collection.
