I remember being blown away by "Knights of the New Thunder" , which was released by TNT in 1984, as well as their 1987 release "Tell No Tales". Tony Harnell has a unique voice with an edgy, raspy tone as well as the ability to sing incredibly high. I ended up seeing TNT live at Harpo's in Detroit on the "Intuition" tour in 1989 and Tony absolutely delivered. My band Harlet used to cover "Break The Ice" back in the late 1980's. Special thanks to Tony and the guys from TNT for the incredible music that inspires us to this day. On the technical side: I am calling this a live vocal cover, because I sang the song from beginning to end in one take without any vocal overdubs or edits. Tony's voice has an insanely high tone that is difficult for me to duplicate. Many of his other songs are made even more challenging by the fact that they have a call and response type of chorus that minimizes time for vocal rest. I recorded a version of "Everyone's A Star" also, but didn't feel like my tone came off as high sounding as Tony's version, so I decided to go with "Break The Ice", because it was a bit easier for me. I am really familiar with the song so I got a good take on the first or second try. The music came from Moises (with just the lead vocal deleted). I sent my vocal track and the music track to my friend Kurdt Vanderhoof who added some effects to the vocals and blended them in with the music. Special thanks to Kurdt for his assistance.
