A lot of times as dermatologists, we remove moles because we're worried about skin cancer, particularly, a skin cancer called melanoma. However, sometimes we can remove a mole because you don't like it, or it's getting irritated and it's rubbing because it's kind of pooched out. So, the way we do it is we can do it in on of two ways. One is to remove it very deep underneath the skin and put stitches. Often, the scarring is a little bit more because we have to cut so deep and put stitches. It can leave kind of a line mark. And it can be not as nice as a little circle that can be easily covered with makeup. If the mole is small and not very deep, it's easy to be able to remove it in a very nice and elegant and cosmetic fashion by numbing it and being able to cut it and shave it flat with the skin, so it's no longer pooching out. It's not noticeable by the eye. And cosmetically, it's removed and it looks attractive. And I'm gonna show you how that can easily be done today. So here we have a mole that my patient here does not like. You see it's tiny, small, but it's kind of pooched out. So what we're gonna do is remove it for cosmetic reasons. So the first step after I've cleaned the skin is to put a little anesthesia, a numbing, right underneath it. That's a tiny little needle like the same one we use for Botox. And as you can see, it forms a little wheel and it makes it pooch out even more. That helps us be able to remove it in a more cosmetic way. The next step is to use a blade and cut it and shave it perfect with the skin. The skill here is to not go too deep and not to be too superficial. Just at the right level to get the mole and to not cause too much scarring. You see? Perfect. So now we're gonna be able to remove the mole. And she's not even bleeding, but if she was to control the bleeding, put a little Band-Aid on it and then the swelling around the area is gonna go down. This anesthesia is gonna be reabsorbed by the body and she's gonna be having a perfect skin there without the mole that was bothering her. So that's that.
