Pressure Plate and Throw Out Bearings - Air Cooled VW Tech Tips

Here's a quick tech tip on Air Cooled VW pressure plates and throw out bearings (or clutch release bearings). There are two styles in the Air Cooled VW world. Early style (1970 & earlier) clutch & throw out bearing has a collar on the pressure plate fingers, removable clips, and does not have any guide sleeve. Late style (1971 & later) clutch & throw out bearing has a guide sleeve, clips are molded into the throw out bearing, and no collar on the pressure plate fingers.
