In 2003, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, officially announced the DSO to operate under the Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority. In 2005, Dubai Silicon Oasis was appointed as an independent authority according to Decree No. 16, and that Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) has received its land spanning an area of 7.2 million square meters, to continue the establishment process of the DSO. The project was approved by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and unveiled on February 13, 2013. It is built on reclaimed land by Meraas Holding, with dredging work conducted by Van Oord, the Dutch firm known for its work on Palm Jumeirah, at an estimated cost AED 6 billion. Construction was originally due to start in April 2013, but actually began on May 20, 2013. It opened in November 2018. The island includes entertainment, hospitality, residential, and retail zones, and is forecast to attract more than three million visitors annually. The island features two five-star hotels with direct beach access namely, the Caesars Palace and Caesars Hotel and Resort. The Bluewaters Residences is a premium apartment complex offering various dining, shopping and leisure experiences on the island, all while taking in spectacular views of the coast and skyline. Amenities include fitness centres, swimming pools, basketball courts, play areas and scenic outdoor spaces. Bluewaters also has around 200 beverage and retail and food outlets in the ground level of residential buildings and entertainment section of the island. The total number of residential buildings on the island is 10. Each of these is considered mid-rise and features 15 storeys or fewer. Bluewaters Island will feature the AED 1 billion the Ain Dubai, a 210m tall giant Ferris wheel opened to public on October 21, 2021. It is 42.5m taller than the current world's tallest Ferris wheel, the 167.6m High Roller, which opened in Las Vegas in March 2014 and 19.5m taller than the 190.5m New York Wheel planned for Staten Island. ■ MORE BUS RIDE VIDEOS: 1.
