LCD CABLE REQUIRED: https://amzn.to/3bv85qx LCD SCREEN REQUIRED https://amzn.to/2SLpSRJ We are massive ThinkPad fans, it all started back in the IBM Days with a second hand ThinkPad T21 with a PIII-M 800MHz, upgraded to a whopping 256MB of ram running Windows XP Pro, almost a yearly upgrade to a T41, T60, T60p and finally a T61 which served faithfully for almost 3 years until it was sold on 6 months ago! That void was never filled and now its replacement has arrived!! The machine is a ThinkPad T420. We were actually on the look out for a T430 with an LED keyboard but this turned up cheap and in FANTASTIC condition so we had to snap it up. It featured a 2nd generation Intel i5-2520m @ 2.5GHz, a lowly 4GB of ram on a single stick and a 300GB HDD running Windows 7 Pro So far we have already replaced the Hard Drive with an SSD from SK Hynix, we went with the cheapest 120GB SSD we could find, which happened to be the £50 SK Hynix SL300 Series from eBuyer.com We have fixed the common problem with the T410 onwards track pad wearing out by replacing the surface. Today we are replacing the 1366x768 HD screen panel with a 1600x900 HD+ Panel! more details and the hardware maintenance manual are available at the following link: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/T420_an... Later on plans are to add 8GB (maybe 16GB if we are feeling flush) of Crucial Ballistix ram running in dual channel with a modified bios to allow it to run at its full 1600MHz An upgraded screen from the HD 1366x768 to an HD+ 1600x900 giving a little more real estate is also planned. stay with us to see how we get on with this new long term daily driver!
