What It Is- “Tarlov Cysts are fluid-filled sacs that form on the nerve roots of the spine. They can appear in any part of the spinal column — cervical, thoracic, lumbar, or sacral. But they are most often found in the sacrum, the base of the spine. Sometimes these cysts contain nerve fibers in the cyst wall — other times they do not. According to the Nabors classification system, both are considered types of Tarlov cysts. One important note: if a cyst is found anywhere along the spine, doctors should always image the sacrum, since cysts frequently form there due to the higher pressure of cerebrospinal fluid in that region.”
