Educational video describing the condition of trapezius winging. Lateral scapular winging due to dysfunction of the trapezius muscle. Trapezius muscle lies on the floor of the posterior cervical triangle. Susceptible to injury by: •Blunt trauma •Traction •Penetrating trauma including surgery (Ln biopsy, radical neck dissection). The shoulder will be depressed, the scapula is translated laterally and the inferior angle is rotated laterally. Pain and spasm of the rhomboids and levator scapulae as they try to compensate for deformity. May lead to frozen shoulder, subacromial impingement and radiculopathy. Signs include •Wasted trapezius unable to shrug the shoulder. •The weakness of forwarding elevation and abduction. •EMG confirms the diagnosis.
