This is the same area as seen in my 2021 video, but with all the stools cut so that they will re-grow - you can see 1 year's regrowth on some that were cut last year - over 6 feet given full light, because the intact roots of the tree push nutrients into the regrowth so that it far outstrips the rate that a planted sapling can grow. Coppice repeatedly and you greatly extend the life of the tree. This cant was cut for firewood for my own use. Two saw lengths gives 5 foot long cordwood which will be billeted into logs in a saw brake and burned in the wood burner at home as I have no central heating. Much better than burning coal (fossil/sequestered carbon) and when properly seasoned, almost smokeless. Dead hedging to stop deer browsing the regrowth is built from the unusable hazel tops, mostly dropped into the line of the hedge using directional felling.
