Here goes the experimental youtuber again posting raw stuff!! One of my favourite new practice routines lately is to go in unprepared and see what I can do, where I basically prep on the fly. I see it as B2B practice but worse because sometimes the grid is wrong, and there's no one's cue points let alone mine. I bought this beautiful compilation by Nothing But.. Records "Organic House Essentials Vol. 29. I have listened to a few songs and admittedly the first two transitions were practiced, but mostly I went in fresh on this. My method is I just pick a song at random based on a name that calls to me, no consideration of key, sometimes I skip, often I don't. Usually the track title has something with "love" in it or some verbiage reflective of where I'm at with love, I give it a cue and find my way. So there is a pause in this where I started over after a miscorrecting a bad grid and train wrecking around 10 mins.. maybe for professionalisms sake should edit that, but this is about process. After the pause though some magic happened. I think the exercise in a way clears my mind - I'm not waiting to execute something and not so narrowly focused on getting something "right", and as a result I'm feeling the music more to guide me. It's about being in the moment, responding to the energy and learning to trust my instincts and in turn make more confident decisions... and then we all have more fun because everyone feels it when the DJ is!!
