A MORNING OF EARNEST INQUIRY The interaction program on 5 January came about after a young student expressed the difficulties he was facing in understanding some aspects of J Krishnamurti's teachings. He said he was reading a lot and watching videos but a full understanding evaded him. We thought that perhaps a question and answer interaction would be perfect for those who had questions but found it difficult to find the platform to discuss them. When we approached Professor P Krishna and asked if he could join us, he agreed readily. We were delighted because Professor P Krishna brings a rare understanding of the teachings. He was Professor of Physics at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) when J Krishnamurti requested him to take up the responsibility of Rector, Rajghat Besant School in Varanasi. That began a long association with J Krishnamurti and the teachings. He continues to be active and is also Trustee of the Krishnamurti Foundation. The interaction on 5 January provided the opportunity for participants to freely raise any questions they had about the teachings of J Krishnamurti. The questions covered a lot of ground on many facets including awareness, violence, observation, conditioning, religion, nature, thought and a lot more. --------------------------------------------------------------- Below are some of the questions that were brought up for discussion. Just to make it easier, you can watch any particular question and the related discussion at the time point mentioned. 1. Professor Krishna started by stressing that perception is the key. So, much as anyone may try and give answers to questions, those won't help unless one explores on one's own and comes upon the truth. Perception is the key. (2.40 min) 2. The first question was from Adeen and it was on awareness and absorption. A lot of ground was covered in examining this including issues such as thought and conditioning and how awareness belongs to a different field altogether. (6.05 mins) 3. A question came up from Kamal with regard to whether conditioning is much more than opinions, beliefs etc. What about the damage caused to the brain and nervous system through a life that has been lived wrongly? Is the state of health a part of conditioning? (15.46 mins) 3. We then moved to talk about violence, non-violence, food habits and relationship with violence etc. The question was put by Shubhobrata. This discussion covered issues such as inquiry and how, except in science, inquiry and questioning are not encouraged. (18.06 mins). 4. The next issue raised by a participant, Dr Loganathan, was the matter of freedom from the past. How does one live in the present and not be driven by the past? Inevitably, this question also led to more discussion on conditioning and identification. Why do we identify? (28.15 mins). 5. Sharad asked if there was a way to find out if we are stuck in thought or are truly aware. A very interesting discussion followed. (34.38 mins,) 6. How does one deal with a person whose understanding is intellectual whereas you want to relate at the level of deeper truths? The question was from Dipika. (39.43 mins) 7. Shadik asked how does one know if one is observing correctly and without filters of conditioning? (44.34 mins) 8. Why is it that we are unable to apply our understanding and learning in daily life? This question was put by Sanjay. (50.26 mins)./ 9. Prabir wanted to explore if it is possible for a thoughtful mind to drop illusions or does that need a meditative mind? (1.09.07) 10.How do we differentiate between functional knowledge and psychological knowledge? Gautam raised this for discussion. (1.12.51) 11.Does being in contact with nature help in making us more aware and less addicted to thinking? Hyuga wanted to explore this. (1.15.02 mins) 12.Is pleasure a problem? Discussion requested by Dipak. (1.19.51 mins). @everyone For further discussion, question, or understanding, we are always keen to engage.
