Systematic Social Observations and Video Footage: A Comparative Analysis of Police-Citizen Encounters Craig Uchida is the president of Justice & Security Strategies, Inc. in the United States. Uchida’s research has centered on criminology, policing, and broader public policy questions. Currently, he is heading a project that evaluates the use of body worn cameras (BWC) in the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Blankensee Colloquia are international workshops, each focusing on an innovative issue from the humanities or social sciences, that connect to cultural and societal changes of our time. They are funded by the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. For the 2019 Blankensee-Colloquium, the goal was to bring together an expert, interdisciplinary group to discuss potentials and challenges of new types of video data for social science research. Participants were Anne Nassauer (Freie Universität Berlin, organizer), Nicolas Legewie (German Institute for Economic Research, organizer), Isabel Bramsen (University of Copenhagen), Randall Collins (University of Pennsylvania), Robert Dingwall (Dingwall Entreprises & Nottingham Trent University), Ursula Hess (Humboldt-University zu Berlin), Patricia Kanngießer (Freie Universität Berlin), Stefan Klusemann (Fernuniversität Hagen), Olga Russakovsky (Princeton University), and Craig Uchida (Justice & Security Strategies, Inc.).
