Kaguguna is a Mandaya term for “Lifeways”. The Mandaya are peace-loving and has deep respect for life and nature. One of their most distinctive features, is the wearing of thier vibrant traditional attire, be it during ritual, gathering, subsistence, and most especially during festivities. The Mandaya is known for dagmay, a fabric that is made from abaca fiber and dyed by a natural coloring components. Women are the ones to weave and embroider garments while children are encouraged to witness and trained to do beads designs. From putting on of a suwat, the fully embroidered dress, dagmay skirt, arm accessories and the sangki, transforms an elegant image of beauty of the Mandaya community and their heritage. One should be assisted in wearing their complete set of attire. The youth may assists the elders from the preparation up to the garbing of the full attire. Their dress is generally called payna-un. It is characterized by an intricate embroidered dagum (blouse) and lina-ug (skirt made from dagmay). The tabing (embroidery) of the Dagum is meticulously stitched having a motif of block designs, line patterns, rickracks, scrolls, curvilinear motifs, diamonds, and crosses. Men, on the other hand, wear limbutong and kinabi with their sal’lakut, a hat made of sal’lo or bul’la (rattan) and the takus (bolo) tucked in the waist.
