In 1999, Betty and Larry Smith moved from Connecticut to South Dakota where Betty teaches at the University of South Dakota. Larry had already had Parkinson's disease for 7 years and retired from his job as a police captain but started Mr. Smith's Bakery Café, which provides artisan breads and other fare to the community of Vermillion. Their life focus (and the topic for their talk) is on living every day well. The "trailer" that Larry mentions in his opening comments is from a documentary film that is currently in production. The film follows Larry on his June 2011 ride across South Dakota. The trailer can be viewed at: http://ridewithlarrymovie.com/ About TEDx About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
