This episode sees me tackling the tensioner shoes. One of them was missing so I machined a new one from silver steel, probably not the correct material, but I believe the final product is nearly indistinguishable from the originals. This banjo belonged to my Great-Uncle Rueben Grimshaw. I had originally tried to have it restored, I asked various professional luthiers about 15 years ago, but was not given much hope of it being worth while. In that time I have been employed as a carpenter, was a self employed carpenter, and now I'm an engineer on miniature locomotives. Using the skills I have acquired over the last 15 years, I believed that it would be possible to restore it myself. Please be aware this series of videos is far from being a tutorial, and possibly contains some very dubious techniques, but I was learning on the fly using a little knowledge from others but primarily YouTube videos. I hope you enjoy.
