Nathan Crockett and Shepherd Crockett created this ballad and produced the video. We hope that you enjoy our videos. All 5 of the kids (ages 7 through 14) come up with various video ideas. We like using AI in a variety of ways for interesting videos. Here are the words to the ballad: THE BALLAD OF OLD MAN TIBER Come close, my friends, and lend an ear, ’Bout Daufuskie Isle, and a tale to hear. Where the tides still whisper, and the seabirds cry, Lived Old Man Tiber, with a watchful eye. By Daufuskie’s edge, the tales still ring, Of Old Man Tiber and the light he’d swing. Eyes like salt, and skin like rope, A stubborn man with dwindling hope. "The tech is fine," the sailors said, "We’ve got our screens, no need for red." But Tiber climbed those ancient stairs, And watched the sea with steady stares. One humid night, no storm in sight, He felt a pull, a twist of fright. The tide rushed strange, the wind stood still, A sandbar rose beyond the hill. A freighter came—the “Ocean King,” On auto-course, a deadly swing. No crew to watch, no eyes to heed, The siren call of modern speed. Down Tiber ran, past rust and rust, To levers caked in time and dust. He sparked a flare, he swung the beam, A sword of red, a broken dream. The pilot frowned—then caught the glow, A pulse, a flash, a sign to slow. “Hard to port!” he yelled in fear, And scraped past death by inches near. They found old Tiber, worn but whole, Still watching from his weathered knoll. No medals came, no grand parade, Just safer sails from what he made. So mark this truth in every tide: Not all old ways should be denied. Some wisdom waits in quiet men, Who light the storms and stand again.
