Linking the two historic Cumbrian towns of Ulverston and Carlisle, the Cumbria Way passes through the towns of Coniston and Keswick. The route cuts through the Lake District via Coniston Water, Great Langdale, Borrowdale, Derwent Water, Skiddaw Forest and Caldbeck. The Cumbria Way is a primarily low-level route, however there are a few high-level exposed sections. The local Ramblers Association originally devised the route in the 1970s. Volunteers and national park staff completed the waymarking of the entire route in May 2007.
