South India Under Lockdown As COVID-19 Cases Surge; ICMR Clears Chloroquin Drug | Latest Updates

28 positive cases of coronavirus were reported from Kerala on Monday, taking the total number of patients under treatment to 91, following which the left government has decided to lockdown the state till 31 March. Of the 28, 19 are from the worst-affected northern district of Kasargod, five from Kannur, one from Pathanamthitta, two from Ernakulam and one from Thrissur, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters after a Covid-19 review meeting. Three Districts in Tamil Nadu-Erode, Chennai and Kancheepuram has been placed under lockdown amid COVID-19 crisis. On the other hand, the Indian Council of Medical Research has recommended the use of anti-malarial drug Hydroxychloroquine “under exceptional circumstances” as a line of treatment against high-risk Covid-19 patients.
