2025 Hyundai INSTER First Drive: Small Car, Big Space! Hello guys, and welcome back to Car Obsession. A few days ago I uploaded my first drive of the Renault 5 E-Tech, and now it's time for arguably one of its biggest rivals, the new Hyundai INSTER. Like the 5 E-Tech, the new INSTER is a funky looking car thats bound to stand out from the crowd. However, where the Renault 5 E-Tech goes for a retro approach, the INSTER takes a more contemporary approach. The Hyundai INSTER is available with a choice of two batteries; 42kWH and 49kWh, although the former is only available with the base model. The trim level featured in this video is the mid-range 02, therefore it has the larger battery. The electric motor is good for 150hp along with 147Nm. 0-62 comes in a little under 11 seconds with a top speed of 93mph. The 49kWh battery offers a range up to 229miles, whereas the 42kWh offers 203 miles. At the time of filming, the Hyundai Inster is available in three trim levels, 01, 02, and Cross with respective starting prices of £23,505, £26,755 and £28,755. The 01 trim level offers 15” alloys, LED daytime running lights, climate control, 10.25” touchscreen and 10.25” digital driver’s display, reversing camera, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, smartphone connectivity, navigation and keyless entry. Safety features include autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane follow assist, speed limit assist, and highway drive assist. It’s worth noting that you don’t get the sliding rear seats on the base model, so don’t get caught out. The car featured in this video is the 02 trim level, which is also fitted with the Tech Pack. This adds a vehicle to load internal 3 pin plug and a digital key. On top of the 01 trim level, the 02 adds LED lights, 17” alloys, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, roof rails, ambient lighting, aut-dimming rear view mirror, front parking sensors, wireless phone charging pad and sliding rear seats. The Cross adds features such as blind spot monitoring, surround view monitor, electric sunroof, Cross 17’ alloys, Inster cross design package and blind spot collision avoidance assist. Speaking of the boot, it offers a modest 238 litres, which can be extended to 351 if the rear seats are slid forwards. Fld them down and you’ll free up 1,059 litres. Note, because the base model doesn’t have the sliding rear seats, the boot space is 280 litres with the rear seat up. Let’s turn our attention to the batteries and charging times. As well as the 49kWh battery fitted to the car in this video, there is also th choice of 42kWh battery, but that is only available on the base model. The 42kWh battery has a range of 203 miles, whereas the 49kWh battery has a range of 229 miles with 15” alloys, and 223 with 17” alloys. In regard to charging times, if you use a 7kW charger you’ll get the 42kWh battery from 10% to 100% in 6 hours 5 minutes and for the 49kWh it’s a precise 6 hours 4 minutes. When using an 11kW charger you’ll have respective charging times of 4 hours and 4 hours 35 minutes. From 10% to 80% using 50kW charger both batteries will take 30 minutes to charge and they’ll take 30 minutes to get the same result when using the 150kW charger. It’s worth noting that the 42kWh can charge to a maximum of 73Kw and the 49kWh can charge at a maximum rate of 85kW.
