This video demonstrates the fastener feeding process in the AUTORIV FlexSys system. The process includes step-conveyor sorting, jam-section alignment, precise separation, and pneumatic transport to the setting unit. The AUTORIV FlexSys fastener feeding system quickly and reliably sorts, orients, and delivers fasteners to assembly tools. It is used in automated assembly lines, robotic workstations, operator workstations, and in-die assembly processes. It can process a wide variety of fasteners, including self-clinching nuts and studs, spacers, blind rivet nuts, and specialty parts. Feeding Process Overview Fasteners are added to the hopper through the top lid. The hopper’s conveyor belt then carries the fasteners toward the jam section. An electric motor drives the belt, and the speed or flow rate can be adjusted using a mechanical restriction. A jam sensor monitors the buildup of fasteners in the jam section. When the jam section is full, the sensor signals the motor to stop the conveyor belt, thus preventing overfilling. A separate fill-level sensor ensures that the step feeder is continuously supplied with fasteners. If the sensor detects a low level, the hopper automatically restarts to refill the system. If the system does not receive new fasteners for an extended period of time, a "parts shortage" warning is issued. The jam section collects fasteners in the correct orientation and acts as a buffer. Only properly aligned fasteners are allowed to pass through. Some configurations use multiple jam sections to supply several assembly units simultaneously. A separator at the end of each section releases the fasteners one at a time. Depending on the shape of the fastener, the system offers different separator styles. Once a fastener reaches the separator, a small cylinder moves it into a firing position. Then, compressed air propels the fastener through a shot tube directly to the assembly tool. Optional Barcode-Based Error Prevention For additional quality assurance, the hopper can be equipped with a barcode scanner. Before opening the hopper lid, the operator must scan the fastener packaging. The system will then verify that the correct type of fastener is being loaded. If the barcode does not match the expected part, the lid will remain locked. This prevents mix-ups and ensures that the feeding system always handles the correct fasteners.
