My name is Kevin Lindgren. I am an orthopedic surgeon here with Summit and specializing in hip and knee. That means things like replacements, and what it also means is second opinions. There's a lot of people getting joint replacements every year, and many of them need second opinions. So the other part of the specialty that I'm involved with is seeing those folks and revising potentially some of those hip and knees that didn't work out the way people planned. I am originally from Wisconsin, grew up just north of Milwaukee. I headed to Madison after high school and went to the University of Wisconsin in Madison. After that, I actually had a bit of time off. I was a carpenter. So my whole family's in construction. I built houses for a while before I went to medical school. And then I started at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. So after spending four years there in medical school, I started marching westward and went to the University of Nebraska. That was in Omaha. That was where I did my orthopedic surgery residency. After five years there, I moved further west to the University of Utah for, it's called an Adult Reconstruction Fellowship. So an extra year in specialty training in just hip and knee reconstruction. My patient care philosophy really revolves around the education. I don't believe that it is an "us versus them" or a situation where someone is coming in just only looking for an answer. I think the best way to get the answer is to understand the answer, and the only way to do that is through the education. So I really emphasize working together with the patient and trying to take the adequate amount of time to be able to explain to somebody what's going on, why they're hurting, and then describing the options. And especially for anybody who's been dealing with arthritis for many years, they've had some time to build up some questions, at least. And I think it's an important thing for me to do to help answer those questions in order to do what we can to help them have the solution that they want. I really do enjoy getting outside and doing anything outside. My kids like to make fun of me and say, "Oh, is Dad going to cut the grass again?" - because maybe I'm guilty in that I just like to be outside and take care of that stuff. But otherwise, I really enjoy fishing, golfing, hunting, and doing any of those things that really get me out there.
