• Always read the accompanying technical description! More harpsichord stuff @ https://www.hpschd.nu Carey Beebe removing the upper keyboard to access a key on the lower. It’s a relatively easy matter on the historic type of harpsichord to remove the upper keyboard and access any key on the lower. The three screws of the nameboard batten are unscrewed and the nameboard lifted clear and put aside. The upper keyboard is pulled towards the player to its uncoupled position, from where it can be lifted slightly to clear the coupler rail and extracted from the instrument. It can be rested on the top of the nameboard and the jackrail. The coupler rail can then be lifted from its locating pins and put aside. Any key of the lower keyboard can then be lifted from its balance pin and extracted, being careful not to damage the coupler dog. (If it is necessary to remove the lower keyboard, all its jacks must be raised and stood on the lower guide—not shown.) To reassemble the instrument, proceed in reverse. The lower key is returned, carefully engaging its guide pin with the rack at the back of the keyframe, before dropping the key on its balance pin. The coupler rail is returned to its position. The upper keyboard is slid over the coupler rail on its tracks, and pushed to its coupled position. Finally, the nameboard batten can be returned and fastened carefully by its screws.
