The obverse (front) side of the coin features a left-facing portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States, designed by John Flanagan. Above the portrait is the word “LIBERTY”, and to the left, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is inscribed. At the bottom is the year of issue, 1992. This coin was minted primarily in copper-nickel clad composition, though special proof versions exist. The Washington quarter series has been a cornerstone of U.S. coinage since its introduction in 1932, originally commemorating Washington’s 200th birthday.
