West Papua's Black Paradise devote their talent and energy to showing the world the beauty of their country's traditional musical culture. They do so in the face of an oppressive Indonesian regime which threatens the future of the culture by outlawing any type of traditional indigenous performance, celebration or ceremony in their own country. Black Paradise made their first trip to Australia appearing at the history-making and controversial Morning Star Concert For West Papua at the Melbourne Concert Hall on an all-star bill which included Pnau, Alex Lloyd, Not Drowning Waving, Paul Mac and Lisa Gerrard. This rare footage of Black Paradise performing Aye Nanawe at the Morning Star Concert has been edited to the studio version of the song, produced by Ferry Marisan and David Bridie. The song appears on the Black Paradise album Spirit of Mambesak, available through the Wantok Music Foundation.
