For this piece I was attracted to the distinction and the relation between a temporal and physical space. The temporal space would be the subconscious, dreams, the world we inhabit when we are not aware of it. The physical one can translate into the awake and conscious world. They never exists in the same moment, even though they inf luence each other greatly. For Between All Fading Colours I wanted to work with Jan Schouten (NDT’s in-house pianist) who to me is a true genius of our time. He is physically both in- and outside of the work yet his musical guidance is always present. The dancers come together in a seemingly different world on a stage that is abstained from any exit or escape.
