In proper Metroid fashion, Samus loses nearly all of her abilities at the start of the game, slowly relearning them over the course of the story. In addition to classics like her arm cannon and morph ball, Samus’ new psychic abilities grant her the ability to create and control motes of energy, which can be used to solve environmental puzzles and unlock new areas. Speaking of puzzles, it’s quite impressive how Metroid Prime 4 weaves environmental design into puzzle challenges. Whether it’s waterfalls of lava near a volcano, electrifying pathways in a tower beneath a thunderstorm, or restrictive vines in the jungle, each puzzle feels unique to the area it's found in, and cleverly asks the player to use the skills gained there in order to solve them. There’s very little guidance, even with tutorials turned on, forcing the player to really lean on their instincts (and Samus’ arsenal of abilities) to find solutions.
