VSAD - Virtual Streaming Audio Device Driver & Firmware

After the recent passing of my dearest friend and companion Tyler I had to shut down for a while. After some time, I needed to start working again. Since Tyler was there for the entire development process of my lathe, I really couldn't bring myself to work on it without him with me. I decided to start something completely new and challenging. I decided to work out a full network streaming audio solution. I started by creating the hardware and firmware, and a desktop application to stream audio for testing. Once that was worked out, and it took quite some time and effort to get it working... I then decided to take on the truly challenging bit.... I developed my own Kernel Mode Virtual Streaming Audio Device Driver for Windows 10. This driver can be used as the default audio for Windows for playback via Windows Media Player. Or, can also be selected as the Audio Output for any DAW or audio editing software. Audio is buffered and sent via a TCP Unicast socket connection to the firmware on my hardware device. From there, it goes through a simple DSP I implemented for volume attenuation which is also controllable via TCP message to a separate control port. I could also make this Multicast and have many devices all fed by the same network audio stream. After the simple DSP, the audio is sent out to a DAC and then out as analog audio to a set of desktop speaker. I will be using aspects of this work in a lot of my current projects including the lathe. With this technology I can control multiple lathes by a single computer, all fed by a single audio source program, distributed over a network, to a device embedded in each lathe. You could easily now run a bank of my lathes simultaneously from one computer. FYI, I will be getting back to working on the lathe soon. Never fear. I just needed to go in a new direction for a while. And, I think it was worth the time diverting my attention. Stay tuned because I have more old footage that I will be editing and posting soon.
