Thoughts on the S197 GT500 Rear Brake Upgrade Welcome back to the channel! Today I wanted to take a moment to explain the options for the rear GT500 Brake Upgrade on a 2005-14 S197 Ford Mustang. Ultimately I decided against this upgrade as prices for parts, shortages, and the like have increased so much. I did not feel it was worth $200-300 for larger rotors, brackets, etc to simply gain looks. My Mustang is just a street cuirser - no track use of any kind. This is on my list for a future upgrade for sure, as the larger rotors really fill out the rear wheels nicely. The two ways of completing this upgrade are either using a caliper bracket such as the one sold by ncmustangparts on ebay, OR the OEM backing plate route. Both require the 2013-14 GT500 rear rotors obviously. The stock calipers are the same. Ebay seller, ncmustangparts often runs batches so you have to check to see if any stock is available. As of October 2021, I do not see them in his store. The price has also increased the last time I saw to around $130-140. The second option is to use the OEM Ford part route where you purchase the backing plates, hardware etc from Ford. Either way will work, the billet bracket from ncmustangparts is naturally less and many have proven its durability over the years on forums.
