I was genuinely touched by the beautiful bond between a grandmother and her daughter during my visit to Khonoma village, just 20 km from Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. Watching them carry baskets of grass and wood on their heads reminded me of my own grandma. As they made their way home, I had the privilege of sharing a wonderful conversation with them. Although I didn’t understand Nagamese, a sweet little girl named Bumbum bridged the gap by acting as a translator between me and her grandmother. It was such an incredible experience. They kindly invited me to their humble yet charming home, which radiated warmth and simplicity. I even had the opportunity to taste their local wine, a special treat. By the end of my visit, I felt grateful to be able to offer them a little help with some money to buy new shoes for both of them. This experience truly showed me that love and kindness transcend language barriers. Despite our different backgrounds, we all share fundamental needs for love and compassion. It was a heartwarming reminder of our shared humanity.
