VISITED EVERY PARK IN MANILA... A CITY HOME TO 1.9 MILLION FILIPINOS! I love going for long walks, and I love parks. Intrigued, I decided to see if there were any parks around Manila. Not Metro Manila… but the city of Manila. Here is what I found typing “Parks” into Google Maps: Children’s Road Safety Park Rajah Sulayman Park Rizal Park Puerta Real Gardens Heroes Park Manila Hidden Garden Arroceros Forest Park Riverside Drive Park (esplanade) Anda Circle Park Don Bosco Park Tutuban Park Paco Park Francisco Balagtas Park Pandacan Linear Park And 27,000 steps, plus a little public transport later… I visited them all. Thoughts? Very very little greenspace here. Most of the parks were monuments or statues with historical significance. They were full of concrete openly exposed to sun. Although there were trees and benches surrounding, some had more than others. Of course, Rizal Park was different, and full of areas to find shade… at least away from the central part... which is also openly exposed. One place pleasantly surprised me: Arroceros Forest Park. I didn’t have big expectations. But this 2.72 hectares was actually incredibly peaceful, well organized, clean, and refreshing. You walk into dense forest pathways, and trees are labeled so you can learn. No wonder they call it “The Last Lung of Manila.” Amazing how the greenery survives and even thrives when given a chance… even amongst all the pollution. The place is a little oasis. Sayang, there aren’t more like it around the city. THE PARKS OF MANILA! DID I MISS ANY? *** For more stories and adventures check out my Facebook Page: / becomingfilipino
