golden run starts at: 27:50 this was a journey. i dont even know where to begin this golden is by VERY far the hardest thing i have done in any game ever. my previous hardest golden was Pumber (back then high t1) with ~80 hours. this has taken 540 hours. probably the thing i underestimated the most was the mental aspect. being positive about a grind is pretty easy, when you know you are making progress. when the stats are improving. when the graphs are trending upwards. but when things dont go as cleanly as they do on easier goldens, keeping good mental becomes SO much harder. in arc 3 of my DMR journey, i decided to go for the win. progress was good, but at that rate i would be dragging it along for probably a few more months, so i decided to do double sessions and play 5 hours of DMR every day. i kept getting better at the map, to a point where i ended up getting to the 4th last room in the map, 4 TIMES within 10 days. however, little did i know that this would make my fingers reach their physical limits. 1.5 months into arc 3 i suddenly started playing worse. every day it was getting harder to play properly, and i didn't know why. i just played it off as having "a few bad days". but it kept getting worse. so bad that eventually i couldn't continue playing anymore and had to end stream early. after that i decided i need to do a hard stop, for the sake of my fingers. i was genuinely extremely unhappy in this entire time period, but the day i had stopped a session early was the saddest i've ever been (excluding grief) i took a break from playing Celeste on keyboard for over 2 months, hopefully so that my fingers could heal. the plan was to eventually go back to playing DMR, but at a reduced rate, and maybe with a different playstyle that is easier on my left middle finger (like ASDF movement). my finger does feel a lot better rn, but it's not back to how it was before, and might never be again. ASDF playstyle was ok, but i noticed i was playing way worse than back then. even with a playstyle thats easier on my left middle finger, it still didn't cooperate properly and would sometimes mis-input buttons, or be harder to move so that i miss precise timings. it was annoying. eventually i moved back to WASD playstyle, but with my ring finger for A and S instead of my middle finger. this was the game changer. it allowed me to play without using my damaged finger, killing two birds with one stone: i can play properly AND my damaged finger has 0 strain and can focus on healing. and then, after some derust, i was quickly back to where i was before. and even further. way further. the craziest session was the one where i died to the golden room, because not only did i get past PB and fluked the last 3 rooms of CP6, but that run was a back-to-back-to-back CP6 run, all 3 runs even getting past Taylor?!? that is way harder than just getting the golden. luckily it didnt take long after the golden room death to actually get the golden. i am SO happy thanks to yall who followed me on this journey. shoutouts to everyone who helped me with strats, mental and other stuff, yall are amazing! and gl Clantis, excited for you to smash my time! soooo now just gonna chill for a while, but the next big grind will be for that one last berry in SJ...
