The skidding system refers to cantilever and drill floor skidding systems. The purpose of the cantilever and drill floor skidding systems is to perform both longitudinal and transverse movements of the complete cantilever/drill floor assembly relative to the main deck of the MODU, and to maintain the selected position during drilling. Cantilever skidding system is limited to the jacked-up drilling condition only. The maximum extended position in cantilever drilling mode, from the transom to well center is 70 ft (21.336 m). Skidding of cantilever shall be operated with drill floor rotary center in line with rig longitudinal center. The drill floor is designed for transverse skidding up to 20 ft (6.096 m) port and starboard, from the well center. Average traveling speed of cantilever is about 10 m per hour. The system is supported by a pair of transverse skid rails which form part of the hull. The system also supports two longitudinal skid rails which form part of the cantilever main beams. The system comprises four skid boxes arranged between the cantilever lower rails and the hull skid rails. The centers of the four boxes are arranged at the corners of a rectangle format by the centerlines of the two longitudinal skid rails and the two transverse ones. Each skid box consists of a welded steel structure designed to transmit cantilever weight components and vertical operational forces to the hull for every operational position of the cantilever relative to that hull. At its upper end each skid box is connected to a skid unit. Those skidding units perform the longitudinal cantilever skid motions. At its lower end each skid box is connected to a skid unit for performing the transverse motions. Hydraulic pressure to operate the system’s hydraulic elements is supplied by an E-motor driven hydraulic power unit (HPU) arranged in between the forward skid boxes. The HPU comprises the control console from which all skidding action are controlled. The HPU is laid out to feed either the transverse or the longitudinal skidding system, i.e it is not possible to activate both movements simultaneously.
