Coimbatore Student Assault Case: Police Nab 3 Accused After Encounter

Three people suspected to have being involved in the sexual assault of a 20-year-old college student near the Coimbatore International Airport on November 2 were shot at and nabbed by the Tamil Nadu police. The accused, identified as Guna, Karuppasamy, and Karthi, were shot in the leg during an encounter while trying to escape. Commissioner Saravana Sundar, while speaking to the media said that they were involved in other criminal cases in the past. After thoroughly checking CCTV footage, the Peelamedu police traced them to an isolated place in Vellikinaru. The trio attacked the police while trying to escape, injuring a constable. Police retaliated by shooting all three suspects in the leg. They were subsequently taken to the Coimbatore Government Hospital along with the injured constable for treatment.
