Math games are a great tool for children's education and in this video, we use the "if this is the answer" game for math. Mental math games are important for kids because it allows them to think and consider the possibilities and that is when they will use the methods they have learned in addition, subtraction, division or multiplication to settle on the answers they are searching for. Through our channel, we have brought different educational videos with lots of ideas related to teaching the kids math. Math could be taught to the kids through using their toys, it could be done with the small cartoon characters which they love to play with - you could ask them to count for example - and it could get a little bit more interesting by using play-doh and Lego. In this educational video, Michelle is using a technique that would help the kids to think about the equation that the answer for it would be the one in the question asked, this technique which Michelle referred to as "if this is the answer". For example, the parent will ask the kid "if 20 is the answer" what would be the mathematical equation? At this point, the kids will need to use their minds and go through all the possibilities that include the number 20 in them, it could be 20 + 0, it could be 20 x 1, it could be 10 + 10, it could be 4 x 5, there are different possibilities that the kids could think about but this will always depend on their age group and what they have reached in the lessons of math or what they have learned so far. This game could also be translated into a story problem, you could ask the kid to tell you what would be the question or the story that would end up giving this number or answer. There are two important tips which we always give to the parents homeschooling their children when they are teaching them math, the first tip is about building discussions with the kids when it comes to the answers they are giving, let them tell you how they got the answer and what are the other methods which they could have used and so on, and the second tip is giving them the time to think and give their answers without irritating them or telling them to hurry up with the answer because they will most probably make some errors at this point.
