This morning, Senator Jacqui Lambie met with Sarah from Don College, her former school in Devonport, Tasmania. Sarah revealed shocking issues at the school: no support staff for struggling students, relief teachers who aren’t qualified in maths, lack of wi-fi, and no funding for school camps. Meanwhile, $30 million earmarked for school infrastructure upgrades has been diverted to Tasmania's most expensive private schools. The Gonski report from 2012 advocated for needs-based funding to ensure that all students, regardless of their background, receive quality education. Yet, a decade later, public schools are still underfunded, while wealthy private schools receive substantial taxpayer dollars. Senator Lambie calls out the disparity in education funding and highlights the urgent need for a fairer distribution of resources. She urges the government to honour the Gonski recommendations, provide the full 25% funding commitment, and address the widening gap between wealthy and disadvantaged schools. Watch as she challenges the current system and demands equal opportunities for all students.
