Anyuak (Anuak) are a Nilotic ethnic group primarily living along the Ethiopia–South Sudan border, especially in the Gambella region and parts of Upper Nile State. Their culture is strongly connected to river life, cattle, farming, and community traditions. Music and dance play an important role in social life, especially during celebrations, weddings, harvest festivals, and community gatherings. Anyuak dances are rhythmic and expressive, often performed in groups with coordinated steps, clapping, and chanting. The dances usually involve strong foot stamping, shoulder movements, and circular formations, accompanied by traditional drums and songs that tell stories about bravery, community unity, and daily life. Through these dances, the Anyuak preserve their history, identity, and social bonds across generations.
