We are three siblings united under one mission. This year, we are climbing together in the Air Climb fundraiser to support the fight against lung disease. For all three of us, this climb is deeply personal. Lung disease is not a distant issue for our family; it has changed our lives twice. Our aunt passed away from lung cancer at just 52 years old. She never smoked. She had no prior medical history. Yet this disease took her from us. We climb in memory of her. More recently, our grandmother suffered permanent lung damage after COVID. Before, she was able to be active with us, but now even simple breaths can be a challenge. We are grateful she is still with us, but we know many families are not as fortunate. We climb in honor of her. For us, serving our community as part of the MDFR Fire Cadet Program has reinforced that our mission extends beyond the emergency calls we respond to. It is about protecting health, supporting families, and standing up for those who cannot fight alone. We climb for our family. We climb for our community. We climb for you. So that your story never has to echo ours, and if it does, so that we may honor it and help ensure it never repeats itself. As siblings, we believe that service starts at home, and that together, we can make a greater impact. For that reason, we also climb in recognition of a true trailblazer who has dedicated so much of her life to this cause and has helped save countless lives. In honor of her leadership and impact, we encourage you to also consider supporting MDFR Lt. Jeanette Harrington in her continued efforts to fight lung disease.
