The current Round Britain Quiz series comes to a close with the last clash between the North of England and the Midlands. Back in the autumn when these two teams last met, the North won. Can the Midlands claw back some honour today? Rosalind Miles and Stephen Maddock are the regulars on the Midlands team, while Stuart Maconie and Adele Geras appear for the North of England. As usual they'll have to muster all of their arcane knowledge in such diverse fields as literature, geography, cinema, music and politics to make the right connections between the apparently random clues. Tom will be on hand to steer them away from the blind alleys: but the more help he has to give them, the fewer points they'll accumulate. By the end of the contest the final rankings for the 2016-17 series will have been decided. QUESTIONS IN THIS PROGRAMME: 1. (from Barbara Jennings) What binds together an oleaginous fictional clergyman, a police officer, a bullfighting horseman, the ladies and gentlemen of the Press, a 1950s Prime Minister and an intellectual district of London? 2. (from Judith Ainsley) Put the following in order: A South Bank landmark, the protagonist of a Bette Davis film, a river in the south west of England and a female farm animal. 3. (from Bill March) Music - Where might these singers be led by finding questions in a mailbox? 4. (from Richard Ellis) Why would one be very concerned by the absence of an early morning flagship, tailless inhabitants on a contested outpost, and Shakespeare's croaking birds? 5. (from Paul Slade) What's the fatal connection between Billy Lyons, Laura Foster and Al Britt? And which one's lover gave Jamaica's capital threesome a singular success? 6. (from Ivan Whetton) Music - Two of these usually work together, the other gives additional security. Can you explain? 7. (from Richard Hookway) How might the battle of 1066, the Fonz, Bach in the movies, Wilson of Walmington, a suave cricketing thief, and a reluctant hitch-hiker, find themselves on first-name terms? 8. (from Richard Saunders) How might you progress from a lover of Charlie Chaplin to Ursus maritimus, then to what you might hear from Julian and Sandy, and finally to UGM-27? Last week's teaser was from listener James Smith. He asked: Where would you find the following in control: an error indicator in Microsoft Excel, a Sherlock Holmes story, diphenolchloroarsine and a double word score?
